White smoke coming from lawnmower!!?

We just got a new lawnmower, and have used it several times and its worked fine. I took it out this morning to use it again, and when I start it white smoke comes out.. I think it's because I had slightly tipped it on its side, for a few seconds. What are the consequences of that, and what should I do to fix it??
